“That’s the great thing about film, you’re giving people little, tiny pieces of time that they never forget.” -Jimmy Stewart
When you grow up on the road, traveling around the country from one dusty flea market to the next, with two eccentric parents selling knockoff Rolex and bootleg Gucci, you develop a profound fascination with characters and locations. While most kids went to camp, I spent summers wandering around abandoned drive-ins and old fairgrounds hearing stories from a ragtag group of merchant dreamers. In all their stories, the same themes were present: hard work, curiosity, and authenticity. As a filmmaker, I draw inspiration from those themes and over the last fifteen years, have made projects that embody them.
I began my career working under Michael Mann on the films Collateral and Miami Vice and David Mamet on Redbelt. My narrative films (Tobacco Burn, Y Nada Mas, Pretty Dead Flowers, Broken Badge) have screened and won awards and Jury prizes at Tribeca Film Festival, Montreal World Fest, Santa Barbara Film Festival, and IFF Boston. I earned my MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University where I studied with William Goldman, Paul Schrader, Ramin Bahrani, Andrew Sarris, and Annette Insdorf.
As a commercial director, I have directed spots for Google, American Express, Roots of Fight, Zenni, and the ACLU for agencies and production companies like Ogilvy, Saatchi & Saatchi, @Radical Media, Greenpoint Pictures, and ELEMENT Productions. My directing partnership with Judah-Lev Dickstein, Tank + Bunker, was included on Shoot Magazine's list of best new directors and I was included in Connecticut Magazine's list of 40 Under 40.
Though the road always calls my name, I’ve planted my roots in Boston with my wife and two daughters.
